Go On A Blind Date…With A Book!

bdwabcollageTired of the usual romantic Valentine’s Day events? We’re shaking things up! All February long, come into the library to go on a blind date with a book. We hope this program will inspire you to pick up something you’ve never thought of reading before – because you won’t know what it is until you get home!

We’ve put some of our favorite, highly recommended books into some brown paper bags. These books are interesting, thought-provoking or fun, but you haven’t picked them up yet. There is a candy heart hanging off each bag with a teaser about the book. We can almost promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Please play by the rules and don’t open your book until you get home. And then give it at least 30 pages, even if it looks unappealing. The point of Blind Date With A Book is that we know that it’s hard not to judge books by their cover! Then fill out the Rate Your Date card in the back when you return your book. The first few readers to finish a book and rate it will get a prize!

Get excited for Blind Date With a Book by watching this video made by Library TA Alex Z ’15 and starring Library TA Hannah K ’15.

Star-crossed Books – Happy Valentine’s Day!

Star-crossed Books – Happy Valentine’s Day!

unnamedDo you remember Blind Date With a Book from last year? By popular demand, it’s back again – but with a twist. This time, your secret brown bags continue not one, but two books, linked together by a common theme, historical moment, genre, inspiration, character….who knows? Just like Romeo and Juliet were star-crossed lovers, these books never knew they were meant to be until we found them and put them together.

The rules of the game are the same as last year: even though these books may look uninteresting to you or have absolutely terrible covers, you have to give them a try anyway. Read at least 30 pages to see if you like the book after all. They may surprise you. This is a chance to get to know the library collection even deeper and to find out that you may have an interest in a totally new genre that you never thought about before!

Look below to watch a video, made by Devon M. ’16, and then come into the library to check out your pair of star-crossed books!
